Today I took a day trip to Cambridge and it was awesome!
Once again we lucked out with the weather, super sunny with blue skies! We got
a guided tour around the town of Cambridge as well as a tour of King’s College
and chapel!
Cambridge is a market city, with Market Square located in
the city’s center since the Middle Ages! The market had different types of food
stalls as well as some craft stalls. Cambridge Guildhall overlooks the market
place; the royal couple actually has made appearances there (not today unfortunately).
Cambridge is the home of the University of Cambridge, which
is ranked one of the top universities in the world (Cambridge vs. Oxford)! The
university includes Cavendish Library and King’s College Chapel. The
architecture in Cambridge is absolutely amazing; no two buildings are the
same.
King’s College Chapel was an architectural standout; the building pays such attention to detail and the stain glass is impeccable.
After walking pass all the beautiful scholastic and
religious buildings we headed back into the heart of town for some food. I got
the most delicious sandwich and a big o’le cup of tea! From there we walked
around, making our way in and out of the shops, eventually getting dessert at a
fudge store (I got mocha…. divine).
After lunch we took a casual stroll through the park and were able to see punting! Punting refers to boating in a punt. The "punter" generally propels the punt by pushing against the river bed with a pole (pretty awesome)!
We also found the Corpus Clock which is very famous in Cambridge, it cost over 1 million pounds!
Before we knew it our time in Cambridge was up, as we were boarding
the bus it started pouring (we got soooo lucky)! The bus ride from Cambridge
back to King’s Cross was 2 hours, so I got a nice nap in to make up for my lack
of sleep last night!
